Colin Turkington
Colin Turkington (born March 21, 1982 in Newry , Northern Ireland ) is a British racing driver . He was active in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) from 2002 to 2010 , where he won the championship title in 2009. He competed in the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship (STCC) in 2011 .
Career
Turkington began his motorsport career in 1993 in kart racing , in which he was active until 1995. He then competed in off-road racing for three years. In 1999 he switched to touring car racing in the British Ford Fiesta Cup . After finishing the first two seasons in this series in eleventh place overall, he won the championship title in 2001.
In 2002 Turkington moved to the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC). After finishing 14th in 2002 with a podium finish, he scored his first victory in 2003 and finished the season in eighth place. In 2004 he moved to West Surrey Racing within the BTCC . He finished the first two seasons for that team on the sixth championship course. In 2006 , Turkington achieved his best overall result in the BTCC. With two wins he finished third in the championship.
In 2007 , Turkington decided with three wins more than in previous seasons, but in the championship he finished fifth overall. Turkington also made his World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) debut for West Surrey Racing . In his first race, he finished in third place. He was not entitled to points this season. In 2008 , Turkington focused again on its involvement in the BTCC. He won four races and finished fourth in the championship. In 2009 , Turkington decided six BTCC races for themselves and won the championship with 275 to 270 points ahead of Jason Plato .
In 2010 Turkington left the BTCC and joined West Surrey Racing in the WTCC, in which he drove a BMW 320si . He took part in 5 out of 11 race weekends. After he had already achieved three podiums, he won his first WTCC race in Mimasaka . He benefited from the disqualifications of Augusto Farfus and Andy Priaulx . He finished the season in tenth place in the championship. In 2011, Turkington moved to the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship (STCC) at Flash Engineering . With three second places, he finished fifth in the drivers' championship and also prevailed against his team-mate Jan Nilsson , who had won races. He also returned to the WTCC in 2011 . For Wiechers-Sport he competed on three racing weekends in a BMW 320 TC. He achieved second place as the best result and at the end of the season was 13th in the drivers' standings.
