Jason Plato (born October 14, 1967 in Oxford ) is a British automobile racing driver .

Career

He attended The King's School in Tynemouth . He started his career in karting at the age of fourteen in 1981 . Two years later he won the Junior Kart World Championship. In 1985, Plato was active in the senior karting world championship and in the British senior karting championship and was fifth in both series at the end of the season. In 1987 he entered the Formula K European Championship, and two years later he was seen at the Elf Renault Winfield School , where he was able to get a second place in Magny-Cours . In 1990 the Englishman finished fifth in the British Formula Renault . A year later he won the title in the Formula Renault Euro Series.

In 1992 Plato drove in British Formula 3 . In 1993 he switched to the British Formula Vauxhall Lotus Championship and was fifth at the end of the season. In 1994 he became a test driver in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC). In 1995 he contested a few races in the English Formula Renault and in 1996 he won the Elf Renault Sport Spider UK Cup, his third title of his career at the time. Plato has competed in the BTCC races since March 31, 1997. The high point of his career followed in 2001: he became British touring car champion. In addition, he also drove for UK ASCAR in 2002 and worked as a driver mentor in 2003. In 2009 he missed the title in the British Touring Car Championship after switching from Seat to Chevrolet by only five points and achieved a triple victory in the last race of the season (as the second driver ever).
