The Circuito di Pescara was a 25.838 kilometer motorsport racetrack near Pescara in Italy .
history
The road course included two extremely long straights and a demanding, winding section through the villages in the hinterland of the Adriatic coast . The streets were narrow and uneven. The length of almost 26 kilometers is the largest for a Formula 1 track .
The first race for the Coppa Acerbo was held in 1924 . The winner Enzo Ferrari on Alfa Romeo RL . After that the race was not part of the European Grand Prix Championship , but was of international importance until the Second World War . Big names like Giuseppe Campari , Tazio Nuvolari and Luigi Fagioli for Alfa Romeo , Achille Varzi and Bernd Rosemeyer for Auto Union or Rudolf Caracciola for Mercedes-Benz entered the list of winners. In 1950 , 1951 and 1954 Formula 1 races took place here, but they did not count towards the world championship . The 1957 race was officially part of the World Championship and was held as the Pescara Grand Prix . The race attracted over 200,000 spectators.
The last race on this route was a 4-hour race in 1961 , which was part of the World Sports Car Championship and was won by Lorenzo Bandini and Giorgio Scarlatti in a Ferrari 250TRI . After that, the track was canceled as a motorsport venue, as it was impossible for the organizers to guarantee the safety of the drivers and spectators.
