Pista del Littorio

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pista del Littorio (also Autodromo del Littorio or Circuito del Littorio ) was a motorsport racetrack in the Italian capital Rome .

history

Dei Pista del Littorio was on the Tiber , about seven kilometers north of the Roman city center. The name Littorio was based on the fascis . This bundle of lictors was among other things the symbol of Italian fascism in the early 20th century .

The route was located on the grounds of the Rome-Urbe airport and was almost four kilometers long. It was inaugurated by Benito Mussolini in 1931 and used up to and including 1934. The piste was skied clockwise and consisted of two long right-hand curves, one long left-hand curve and a hairpin curve that led to the right.

In 1931 and 1932 , the Pista del Littorio housed the Reale Premio di Roma for automobiles . From 1932 to 1934 it was also the venue for the Grand Prix of Nations for motorcycles , which in 1932 was a race for the European motorcycle championship .

On December 8, 1931, there was a sensational race between aircraft and land vehicles on the Pista del Littorio . First came Furio Niclot Doglio on a Fiat AS.1 against Piero Taruffi on a 500-cm³- Norton - Motorcycle on. Taruffi won. Shortly afterwards, Vittorio Suster competed in a Caproni Ca.100 and Tazio Nuvolari in an Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 with the better end for Suster and the plane.
