4-hour race of Pescara 1961
The 4-hour race of Pescara 1961 , also Grand Prix Pescara, 4 h Testa Rosa , took place on August 15th on a street circuit near the city of Pescara and was the fifth round of the sports car world championship of that year.
The race
In 1957 , a race for the Formula 1 World Championship of that year - the Pescara Grand Prix - was held on a circuit around the city of Pescara . The Grand Prix for sports cars was announced in 1961 and had the same route as the 1957 monoposto race.
In workout was Richie Ginther in the plant - Ferrari Dino 246SP the fastest. Although another works team was at the start with Porsche and large-capacity Maserati were used by private teams, the race ended with the only victory for Scuderia Centro Sud in the sports car world championship. Lorenzo Bandini and Giorgio Scarlatti won in a Ferrari 250TRI . The duo had dropped to 37th due to an early pit stop, but in the end still triumphed with a lead of 12 minutes over the second-placed Porsche.
