Daytona 3 Hours 1962
The 1962 Daytona 3-Hour Race , also known as the Daytona Continental 3-Hour Sports Car and Grand Touring Race, Daytona International Speedway , took place on February 11 at Daytona International Speedway and was the first race of the World Sports Car Championship of that year.
The race
In 1962 the sports car world championship experienced a change. In contrast to the years before, it was not a brand world champion that was chosen, but each racing class held its own championship. The five races in 1961 turned into 15 events in the 1962 season.
The Daytona 3 Hours was the first race of the season and the first race in this new championship format. It was announced for the sports and GT car classes and ended with Dan Gurney's victory in the Lotus 19 .
