Götz Martius

Götz Martius (also Gottfried; born March 7, 1853 in Erxleben (Prov. Saxony), † May 27, 1927 in Kiel ) was a German philosopher , psychologist and university professor at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel .

Life

After graduating from the grammar school of our dear women in Magdeburg, the son of superintendent Fedor Martius studied classical philology and philosophy from 1871 and received his doctorate in 1877. phil. at the University of Bonn . From 1877 to 1882 he worked as a teacher at the pedagogy in Godesberg and private tutor in Berlin. On April 28, 1885, he completed his habilitation in Bonn with a thesis on Aristotle's theory of induction and became an associate professor there in 1893. On October 1, 1898, he was appointed full professor of philosophy in Kiel, where he taught until 1921. He founded the psychological seminar there and was also rector of the university in 1910/11 and 1916/17. In 1911 he received the honorary title of Privy Councilor .

Götz considered psychology to be the basis of philosophy and all humanities . This represented an expanded psychologism .

Götz Martius was married to Martha (1864–1945), a daughter of the entrepreneur Albert Borsig . They are the parents of the art historian and painter Lilli Martius and the diplomat Georg Martius . His brother was the Rostock internist Friedrich Martius .
