George John Constantine (born February 22, 1918 in Southbridge ; † January 7, 1968 there ) was an American racing driver .

Career

George Constantine drove SCCA series sports car races in North America in the 1950s. His first racing car was a Jaguar XK 120 . In 1956 he won the Grand Prix of Sports Cars in Watkins Glen in a Jaguar D-Type . Constantine celebrated many victories on an Aston Martin DBR2 , such as the Nassau Trophy in the Bahamas in 1959. In 1959, he and Walt Hansgen were voted USSC Driver of the Year.

His successes made Constantine a well-known racing driver in the USA in the late 1950s . He was therefore one of the local greats invited to Sebring for the 1959 US Grand Prix . Constantine drove a Cooper T45 - Climax that Michael Taylor had reported for him. The American couldn't finish the race. An overheated cylinder stopped Constantine's activities and prevented him from finishing his home race.

He continued to drive sports car races until the mid-1960s, finishing fifth in the Daytona 3-hour race in 1962 .
