George Constantin (born May 3, 1933 in Bucharest , Romania , † April 30, 1994 there ) was a Romanian actor .

Life

George Constantin was the son of Elena and Tanase Constantin, two factory workers. After the death of his father he spent his childhood with his sister and mother in poverty, which worsened during the Second World War and the attacks by the Germans. Constantin discovered the theater for himself at the age of ten, so that he later decided to study acting. However, he began training as a mechanic in 1948. It was not until amateur actors were sought for theater performances during his training in 1949 that he appeared on stage for the first time. Two years later, in 1951, he passed the entrance examination to the National University of Theater and Film Arts "Ion Luca Caragiale" , where he began his acting studies in 1952.

While still a student, Constantin made his stage debut in 1954 at the age of 21 with the play "Drumul soarelui" by Virgil Stoenescu . After his studies he did his military service from 1956 to 1957, where he also played theater in the army. He then found several theater engagements in Bucharest and was regularly seen on the screen from the mid-1960s in films such as A Smile in Summer , At the Gates of the Earth and The Rape of the Virgins .

Constantin was married to the soprano Iulia Buciuceanu . Their son Mihai Constantin is also an actor.
