Buenos Aires 1000 km race in 1960
The sixth 1000 km race of Buenos Aires , also 1000 km Buenos Aires , took place on January 31, 1960 on the Autódromo Municipal-Avenida Paz and was the first race of the sports car world championship of that year.
The race
The factory teams of Ferrari and Porsche met in Buenos Aires for the first race of the sports car world championship in 1960 . After more than six hours of racing, the race ended with a one-two victory for the 3-liter Ferrari in front of the fastest Porsche 718 RSK , which, driven by Joakim Bonnier and Graham Hill , was five laps behind the winners Phil Hill and Cliff Allison .
The race was overshadowed by Harry Blanchard's fatal accident . The American had an accident on the first lap and died at the scene of the accident after his Porsche 718 RSK rolled over several times.
