Baron Antonio Pucci (born August 25, 1923 in Petralia Sottana , † July 15, 2009 in Palermo ) was an Italian racing car driver and 1964 winner of the Targa Florio long-distance race in Sicily .

Career

The Sicilian baron, who had made a name in the early 1960s as an amateur sports car racing was in 1964 by Huschke von Hanstein for the Targa Florio as a works driver in the Porsche team appointed. In 1959, von Hanstein, at that time still a racing driver, won the large touring car class in this road race. In the overall standings, that was third overall after more than eleven hours of driving. Pucci drove a Porsche 904 GTS together with Colin Davis . After the failure of the in guide 250 GTO of Jean Guichet and carlo facetti Pucci took the lead in the sixth round. Only his compatriot Nino Vaccarella was as familiar with the perils of the Sicilian mountain roads as he was. Pucci knew every dangerous spot and brought the Porsche safely and quickly to the finish as the winner. He was the third Sicilian to win this race after Francesco Ciuppa in 1909 and Constantino Magistri in 1936. In 1965, again as a Porsche works driver, he finished fifth in the overall standings together with Günter Klass and in 1966 with Vincenzo Arena in a Porsche 906 .
