Jean Guichet
Jean Guichet (born August 10, 1927 in Marseille ) is a former French automobile racing driver and winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1964.
Career
Jean Guichet grew up in the south of France. His father was a well-known doctor in Marseille and the young Guichet founded a supplier for the shipping industry in the 1950s. In 1956 he started as a racing driver for the first time with a Ferrari 500 Mondial in a hill climb in Serrières-Annonay. Throughout his career, he drove almost exclusively races with vehicles of the Italian brand. In the 1960s he was a works driver for Scuderia Ferrari in the World Sports Car Championship .
Guichet celebrated his greatest success in 1964 at the 24-hour race of Le Mans , which he won together with Nino Vaccarella in a Ferrari 275P . Guichet competed in all of the major sports car races of his era.
At 1000 km race at the Nurburgring , he finished 1963 with Pierre Noblet and 1964 and 1965 with Mike Parkes as a partner two square. In 1965 Parkes / Guichet drove the 44 laps in a Ferrari 275P2 in 6: 53: 50.2 hours and finished 44.8 seconds behind the winners John Surtees / Ludovico Scarfiotti in the more powerful Ferrari 330P2.
In 1970 he was supposed to compete again in Le Mans with the Ferrari 512S , but a serious test accident prevented this plan. The prototypes became too fast for the then 43-year-old and he ended his career. In 1975 he returned for a race and drove a 3-liter BMW at Le Mans. Guichet, who is a close friend of the Belgian Pierre Noblet (like Guichet a multiple Le Mans starter), is still closely associated with the Ferrari brand.
