Daytona 2000km race in 1965

The Daytona 1965 2000km race , also called Fourth Annual Daytona Continental (2000km Race for Grand Touring, Sports and Prototype Cars), Daytona International Speedway , took place on February 28th at Daytona International Speedway and was the first championship run the sports car world championship of that year.
The race
The 1965 2000 km race on the Daytona oval course has a special meaning in Ford motorsport history . It was the first race win for the GT40 , which made its racing debut in the 1000 km race at the Nürburgring in 1964 . The entire race was dominated by the Shelby American racing team, Carroll Shelby's racing team . In addition to two GT40s, the former racing driver also brought six Shelby Cobra Daytona coupés to Daytona. The race was a disaster for Ferrari, as all prototypes used by the North American Racing Team were canceled prematurely.
After a driving time of 12: 27: 09.0 hours and 327 laps driven, Ken Miles and Lloyd Ruby in the GT40 won with a lead of five laps over Jo Schlesser , Harold Keck and Bob Johnson in the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupé.
