Rick Muther

Rick Muther (born August 13, 1935 in Laguna Beach, California , † March 12, 1995 in San Juan, Washington ) was an American racing car driver .

Career

Rick Muther was active in US motorsport from the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s , but remained largely unknown to a larger motorsport community.

Muther drove regularly in the USAC series between 1967 and 1976 . He was one of those pilots who fill the fields but can never place themselves at the very front. So the two remained fifth, achieved his best placings at 46 starts in 1968 in Riverside and 1972 in Milwaukee .

After all, Muther was able to qualify three times for the Indianapolis 500 miles , five times he failed in the qualification. He made his debut in 1970, where he reached his best finish with eighth place. In 1980 he tried a comeback when Penske provided him with a car, but Murther failed to pass the qualification hurdle and retired from racing.

Sports car racing

Rick Muther contested 30 sports car races between 1960 and 1967, two of which he won. He celebrated both successes in national races in the United States. His greatest success in international sports car racing was fourth place in the Daytona 2000 km race in 1965 .

Muther died of cancer in 1995 .
