Reims 12 hour race in 1965

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The seventh 12-hour race in Reims , also known as 12 Heures Reims , took place on July 4, 1965 on the Reims circuit and was the 13th round of the sports car world championship of that year.

The race

As in previous years, the Reims 12-hour race in 1965 started at midnight and ended at 12 noon on Sunday. Despite the absence of the factory team , the Ferrari prototypes were the favorites for overall victory. 26 vehicles were registered, 22 of them entered the race. The fastest practice time was achieved by Pedro Rodríguez on a Ferrari 365P2 of the North American Racing Team . The Maranello Concessionaires 330P led the race for a long time , with Graham Hill and Joakim Bonnier taking turns at the wheel. After 231 laps this car had to be parked with a damaged clutch.

Pedro Rodríguez and Jean Guichet secured overall victory in front of another Ferrari driven by John Surtees and Mike Parkes . The fastest GT car was a Shelby Cobra Daytona , which was driven by Bob Bondurant and Jo Schlesser in fifth place overall.
