The hill climb Ross Field , also International Wild Mountain Preiss, Ross Field was a mountain race , which was extended on 13 June 1965th The race was the eleventh round of the sports car world championship this year.

The race

After Edgar Barth's death, mountain sports had to be reorganized at Porsche . Born in Herold , Saxony , Barth had won the European Mountain Championship in 1959 , 1963 and 1964 and died of cancer on May 20th. So Porsche was missing the top driver. Gerhard Mitter was hired as Barth's successor . Mitter drove the Porsche 904/8 Bergspyder on the Roßfeldhöhenringstraße and achieved the best time with the car in both races. He won the overall ranking ahead of his teammates Herbert Müller and Anton Fischhaber .

The route length was 5.890 km. Gerhard Mitter needed 3: 07.590 minutes for his first run; it was the fastest time of the day and corresponded to an average of 115.145 km / h. Adding the runs, he achieved an average speed of 113.656 km / h.

Class winners were won in twelve racing classes. The vehicles with the largest displacement entered the class for GT racing cars over 2-liter displacement, which was won by Bob Bondurant (Bondurant came tenth in the overall classification) on a Shelby Cobra Roadster , and in the touring cars over 2.5-liters - Displacement on. The worst performing cars were reported in the touring car classes up to 0.7 or 0.6 liter displacement. These classes were won by Steyr-Daimler-Puch cars.
