500km Mugello race in 1965

The 500 km race of Mugello 1965 , the Mugello Grand Prix , also XII Circuito del Mugello, 500 kilometers , took place on June 6th at the Circuito stradale del Mugello and was the tenth round of the sports car world championship of that year.
The race
The Circuito Stradale del Mugello was a road circuit with a length of 66 kilometers in the Mugello region north of Florence . The start-and-finish straight was in the south of the small town of San Piero a Sieve , where temporary pit systems were set up for the duration of the race. From there the route led north over the Passo del Giogo to Firenzuola . We continued west to meet the SR 65 at Selva , which at the Mille Miglia formed the section between Bologna and Florence that led over the Futapass . The counter-clockwise round was closed via Barberino di Mugello .
The first race on this track was held in 1914, and it was very popular under different names in Italy in the 1920s and 1930s. From 1964 a sports car race was held, which was given world championship status in 1965.
The respective teams had to master eight laps, the fastest teams completed this requirement in just under five hours of driving time. The overall standings were won by Mario Casoni and Antonio Nicodemi in a Ferrari 250LM . At the finish they had a lead of four minutes and 29 seconds over teammates Maurizio Grana and Cesare Toppetti after 4: 59: 08.100 hours . The only non-Italian starters were David Piper and Mike De Udy . The Porsche 904 GTS driven by the English failed on the seventh lap after a technical defect.
