De Sanctis (racing car)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

De Sanctis was an Italian automobile manufacturer based in Rome . Between 1958 and 1971, the company mainly produced racing cars, but also some sports cars.

Company history

Automobili de Sanctis was a Roman Fiat dealer, which among other things dealt with the tuning of Fiat vehicles. Gino de Sanctis, the company's founder, was involved in the Roman motorsport team Scuderia Lazio in the post-war period together with the manufacturer Giannini . Starting in 1958, the company produced its own racing cars for Formula Junior and Formula 3 , which were equipped with Fiat engines that they had tuned themselves. They were used by Lucio de Sanctis, the son of the company founder, among others. They were successful until they came across vehicles equipped with Ford engines. De Sanctis then also started using Ford engines. One of the greatest successes was a double victory at the Gran Premio Fina in 1966 at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza : Jonathan Williams won the race on April 24, 1966 in a works car with a tenth of a second ahead of Romano Perdomi , who used a comparable car for the private Scuderia Madunina .
