Principe Gaetano Starrabba di Giardinelli (born December 3, 1932 in Palermo ) is a former Italian racing driver .

Career

The Sicilian nobleman Gaetano Starrabba began his career in Italy in the mid-1950s. He raced sports cars , first in a 2-liter Maserati , which he soon replaced with a Ferrari 500TR . In 1958 he was seventh at the Targa Florio . His teammate was the legendary Ferrari veteran Franco Cortese .

In 1961, Starrabba acquired a Lotus 18 chassis and fitted it with a four-cylinder Maserati engine. He contested a number of races between 1961 and 1963 with this car, which was quite suitable for racing. In 1963 he was sixth at the Gran Premio di Siracusa and fifth at the Gran Premio di Roma . In 1961 he competed in the Italian Grand Prix with Lotus . He couldn't finish the race after an engine failure.

From 1964, after a brief foray into Formula 3 with the Giannini-Brabham, he drove sports car races again until the end of the decade.
