The 30th RAC Tourist Trophy also RAC International Tourist Trophy Race with the Senior Service Trophy, Oulton Park , found on May 1, 1965 at Oulton Park instead and was the sixth championship round of the World Sportscar Championship this year.

Before the race

Before the start of the Tourist Trophy, five races of the World Championship were held in 1965 . The season opener, the Daytona 2000 km race , was won by Ken Miles and Lloyd Ruby in a Ford GT40 . It was the first racing success of the GT40 in the sports car world championship. The following Sebring 12 hour race ended with the success of Jim Hall and Hap Sharp in the Chaparral 2A . After the two GT race, the Coppa Bologna and the 3-hour race at Monza , won Mike Parkes and Jean Guichet in the plant - Ferrari 275P2 the 1000 km race at Monza .

The race

In 1965 the organizer of the RAC Tourist Trophy changed and the race was given a new venue. After years on the Goodwood Circuit , the 1965 Trophy took place at Oulton Park. Opened in 1953, the racetrack was 4,334 km long and was located in a park near Cheshire . In 1965 the trophy was run in two runs of two hours each. The racing times of the two races were added to form an overall result.

The best exercise time scored John Surtees on a T70 Spyder Lola with V8 - Chevrolet -Motor. In the race, the car retired after a steering defect in the first run. Denny Hulme finished first in a Brabham BT8 in the first race. The lead that he gained was so great that the New Zealander took second place to overall victory in the second run. Behind him was David Hobbs in the Lola T70, who won the second run but was one lap behind on the total. David Piper finished third in a Ferrari 250LM . The GT class was won by John Whitmore in a Shelby Cobra Roadster , who finished fourth in the overall standings.
