RAC Tourist Trophy 1953
The 20th RAC Tourist Trophy , also Tourist Trophy, Dundrod , took place on September 5, 1953 on the road circuit Dundrod Circuit around the Northern Irish town of Dundrod and was the sixth round of the sports car world championship of that year.
The race
With the start of the sports car world championship, the RAC Tourist Trophy was added to the racing calendar in 1953. Organized by the Royal Automobile Club , the race was one of the oldest racing events in Britain. In 1905 the Trophy was first held on the Highroads Course on the Isle of Man and ended with a victory for John Napier on an Arrol-Johnston .
After a few interruptions in the 1920s and 1940s, the race was held again in 1950 for the first time after the Second World War . The winner was Stirling Moss on a Jaguar XK 120 .
In 1953 there were a large number of top British drivers at the start; Factory cars were registered by Jaguar , Aston Martin , Frazer Nash and Kieft . In the end, Peter Collins and Pat Griffith stayed victorious on an Aston Martin DB3S .
