Frederick Robert "Bob" Gerard (born January 19, 1914 in Leicester ; † January 26, 1990 there ) was a British automobile racing driver .

Career

Gerard started his racing career in 1933. With a Riley he competed in mountain and circuit races. After the Second World War he took part in races with ERA cars and remained associated with this brand for a number of years, even when there were better vehicles. In 1947 Gerard won the Ulster Trophy in Northern Ireland and the British Empire Trophy on the Isle of Man . He finished third in the 1948 British Grand Prix and second in the same race in 1949 .

Gerard competed sporadically in races in the Formula 1 World Championship. First he drove ERA cars, then Cooper models, with which he started until 1957. He finished sixth three times, for which there were no world championship points at the time. Gerard also competed in sports car races .

After retiring from active racing, he remained connected to motorsport as a racing team owner until the 1980s.
