The Cooper T23 was a Formula 2 racing car , built by the British Formula 1 team Cooper in 1953 .

Development history

With the Cooper T23, which was also known as the Cooper-Bristol MKII , Cooper was able to fall back on some experience in monoposto racing car construction. The car had a light tubular frame and a body that was built according to aerodynamic considerations. The engine got its cooling air through two cooling blocks that were attached to the front of the car. The exhaust gases were discharged laterally through two pipes. There are no identical vehicles from the T23. Changes were made to each new car and only the two works cars received a Bristol engine.

A one-off model with a De Dion rear axle and Alta engine was built for Stirling Moss , but the Briton was unable to achieve any success.

Racing history

The car was a failure overall. In 1953 , Bob Gerard and Ken Wharton could not achieve any points in the drivers' world championship . Jack Brabham only achieved some good results with the T23 in Australian Formula Libre races .
