Cooper T79

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cooper T79 was a Formula 1 racing car that the British Formula 1 team Cooper built in 1964.

Racing history

The Cooper T79 was a one-off. The vehicle was built in late 1964 for Bruce McLaren , who was to drive the Tasman series in 1964/1965 with it. But that didn't happen and Cooper sold the car to the Rhodesian racing driver John Love .

Love, who since 1962 except one (1966) always with Cooper race cars at the Grand Prix of South Africa was at the start, put the T79 1967 in Kyalami a Grand Prix. Love started the race from fifth on the grid and surprisingly came second in the race behind Pedro Rodríguez .

In 1968 Love registered the car again for the South African Grand Prix . However, the vehicle was driven by Basil van Rooyen , who had to give up prematurely due to an overheated Climax engine.
