The Kiliani-Volksfest ( also called Mess in Lower Franconia ) is a two-week festival that is held annually from the beginning to mid-July on the Talavera car park in the Zellerau district of Würzburg . The counterpart to the folk festival is the Kilianimesse , which has been taking place on the Würzburg market square since 1030 and is purely a sales fair . It was separated from the folk festival in 1846.

In July 1950, the Kiliani fair took place on the Sanderrasen for the first time after the Second World War.

The festival offers numerous rides and beer tents on the festival site. Every year up to a million visitors visit the Kiliani fair. In 2015 there were around 790,000 visitors.

The folk festival is opened with fireworks and concluded with fireworks at the end.

It takes place as part of the Kiliani Octave, which is celebrated every year in the week around July 8th.
