The sports car world championship in 1953 was the first season of this championship. It began on March 8th and ended on November 27th, 1953.

championship

In the spring of 1953, with the introduction of the world championship for sports cars , the FIA made a far-reaching decision, firstly to put the large number of races under one racing system and secondly to create a counterweight to the world championship for Formula 1 vehicles . While the world championship of the monopostos always honored the victorious pilot, this newly created championship should expressly distinguish the brand. The first six of the respective races got points according to the scheme 8-6-4-3-2-1. Each manufacturer received points only for the best placement. There were three deletions.

The season began in spring with the Sebring 12-hour race and ended in November with the Carrera Panamericana . Ferrari won the world championship ahead of the two British manufacturers Jaguar and Aston Martin .
