The 1991 World Sports Car Championship was the 39th edition of the FIA World Sports Car Championship. It involved group C - sports car part, divided into two classes. The cars in class C1 had naturally aspirated engines with a displacement of 3.5 liters , some of which were also used in Formula 1 , while cars in class C2 started with turbo engines. Both classes did not have an individual championship and were rated together.

championship

Four well-known automobile manufacturers competed with Mercedes , Jaguar , Peugeot and Mazda , the rest of the field consisted of private teams, the in-house designs (e.g. Konrad KM-011 , Brun C91 ) or customer chassis (e.g. Porsche 962 , Spice SE90C).

Brand world championship for racing teams

Points were collected by the first 10 of a race, in the order 20-15-12-10-8-6-4-3-2-1, with a few exceptions:

  • Drivers who did not drive the car a certain percentage of laps did not get any points.
  • The teams only received points for the team classification for the best-placed car. However, this did not apply to the drivers' standings.
  • Should a car not complete 90% of the race distance, but still end up in the points, neither the driver nor the team would get points.

Only teams that collected World Cup points during the season were classified.
