Harald Becker (born November 7, 1953 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German entrepreneur and racing car driver who gained fame primarily through his appearances in the German Touring Car Championship .
Professional career
After the death of his father Paul Becker in 2001, he took over the management of Paul Becker GmbH , a company for scaffolding technology, container services, waste disposal ( Bareg GmbH & Co. KG , a company belonging to Paul Becker GmbH, is also located in this division ) and work platform rental with headquarters in Denzlingen and branches in Berlin , Weiterstadt , Karlsruhe , Leipzig , Leuna , Offenburg and Singen , as partner and managing director. He had been working in the company since the early 1980s. For several years he has also been the managing director of the helicopter transport company Euroheli and also works as a professional pilot himself.
Motorsport career
Beginnings
In 1983 Harald Becker won the German Formula Ford championship and achieved 6th place with his teammate in a 1000-kilometer race at the Nürburgring with a Mazda RX-7 . In 1984 he competed in the German Formula 3 Championship for half a season and was thirteenth overall. In 1986 and 1987 he competed in the Porsche 944 Turbo Cup , where he scored a victory at the AVUS and a pole position at the Hockenheimring in the second season .
DTM
In 1988 he entered the DTM with a BMW M3 and switched to a Mercedes 190E 2.3-16 in 1989 . After a year break he switched back to a BMW M3 (Sport Evolution) in 1991 and achieved a few placings in the points. At the end of 1994, after a year in the BMW E36 , he left the DTM as the best individual result after a total of 97 races and a 6th place (Nürburgring 1993), after the chances for private drivers had fallen sharply.
One-make cup, silhouette and GT sports
In 1994 and 1995 he took part in the Porsche Carrera Cup and finished one championship run in third place each season. In 1997 he entered the FIA GT2 Championship with a Marcos LM600 , where he was able to celebrate a second and four third places by the end of the 1998 season. He also competed in the GT2 class at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1997 , but retired early on in his Marcos due to a defect. Finally, he switched to the national V8 Star series in 2001 . His best overall placement was 6th in 2003. In 2004 and 2005 he contested several races in the FIA GT championship with a Saleen S7R . In 2007 he started in the German ADAC GT Masters with a Dodge Viper Compétition Coupé and in 2008 in the same championship with a Lamborghini Gallardo GT3. Together with Frank Kechele , he finished third overall, with a second and a third place. In 2009 he contested the ADAC GT Masters race weekend on his home track, the Hockenheimring, selected races of the FIA GT3 European Championship and the 24 hours at the Nürburgring .
