Frank Kechele (born September 3, 1986 in Nördlingen ) is a German racing driver .

Career

Like most motorsport athletes, Kechele began his career in karting , where he was active from 1996 to 2002. In 2003 he switched to the German Formula Renault and immediately finished sixth overall with two wins. He also started in the Dutch and Scandinavian Formula Renault. In the following season he repeated his overall placement in the German Formula Renault. It was more successful for him in the Scandinavian Formula Renault, in which he won the runner-up title with six wins. He also made his debut in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup .

In 2005, Kechele decided to switch to the German Formula 3 Cup . The racing driver won one race, was on the podium in three more races and was fifth overall at the end of the season. After a one-year break, Kechele returned to motorsport in 2007. While he finished sixth overall in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup, he won the Northern European Formula Renault with 8 wins in 14 races ahead of his compatriot Tobias Hegewald .

Despite his title win, Kechele turned his back on formula racing and switched to GT racing in the ADAC GT Masters . In his first season he competed with Harald Becker in a Lamborghini Gallardo from the Argo Racing team and immediately finished third in the championship. In 2009 he played his second season in this series on the side of Kuba Giermaziak and finished tenth overall at the end of the season. In 2010 Kechele switched to Reiter Engineering and will be competing again in the ADAC GT Masters, where his teammate is Ellen Lohr this season . At the second race weekend at the Sachsenring, Kechele took part as the representative of Giermaziak with Jens Klingmann in the Audi R8 LMS from Abt Sportsline . In addition, Kechele made his debut in the FIA GT1 World Championship . He and his team mate Jos Menten drove a Lamborghini Murciélago from Reiter Engineering to fourth position at the championship run in Silverstone, but since the winning team was subsequently disqualified, Kechele moved up to third. In Spa-Francorchamps he celebrated his first race win in the GT1 World Championship with Ricardo Zonta .
