The FIA GT1 World Championship was a racing series for Gran Turismos and followed the technical regulations of the GT3 group in 2012 . The championship succeeded the FIA GT championship . It was advertised by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile and organized by the SRO Motorsports Group .

Regulations

A total of 24 vehicles from six different automobile manufacturers were eligible to compete in the world championship. Two teams with two vehicles each competed from each manufacturer. Only private teams with two drivers per racing car were allowed. The automobile manufacturer was only allowed to provide one driver. On each race weekend, two one-hour races were held after practice and qualifying , with the first run on Saturday being counted as a qualifying race. The starting line-up for the championship run on Sunday resulted from the result of the qualifying race. Every participant had to complete a mandatory pit stop between the 25th and 35th minute , during which a driver change was required. Championship points were awarded for the first three of the qualifying race according to the following key: 8-6-4. The championship run was scored as follows: 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1. In order to prevent series victories and to create equal opportunities, additional weights were given to the first four participants after a race. Up to 100 kg could accumulate over several races.
