Overall winners were Marc Basseng and Markus Winkelhock in the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 with 145 points.

history

Regulations

Since there were not enough participants for GT1 vehicles , the organizer SRO decided to use GT3 vehicles for the season instead . The name of the racing series remained unchanged.

Venues

In the first version of the racing calendar, ten race weekends were planned with the new venues Greater Noida , Moscow , Nogaro , Orechová Potôň and Yeongam . The races from the previous year in Nogaro , Silverstone , San Luis , Le Castellet and on the Sachsenring were not taken over.

The race weekend scheduled for September at the Korean International Circuit was removed from the calendar during the season. On July 1, 2012, the two planned races in China at the Goldenport Circuit and Ordos International Circuit were also canceled. They were replaced by a second race on the Slovakiaring and the second guest appearance of the GT1 World Championship on the Nürburgring after 2010. The race on the Moscow Raceway had to be brought forward due to the changes in the dates. At the beginning of September, the final race planned for December in Greater Noida was removed from the calendar and replaced by Donington Park . This meant that championship races only took place on nine race weekends during the season.

Teams

At the SRO press conference during the 24-hour race in Spa-Francorchamps in July 2011, five of the already active teams ( Young Driver AMR , Münnich Motorsport , JR Motorsports , Marc VDS Racing Team and Belgian Racing ) were presented as participants for 2012. Only Münnich Motorsport actually competed in 2012; the other teams withdrew their commitment.

Of the established teams, Münnich Motorsport and Hexis Racing went into their third season. Vita4One Racing and Reiter Engineering were already in the championship in 2010, but then skipped a year and started their second season.
