history

The racing team Sumo Power GT was founded in 2010 by JR Motorsports in cooperation with Nismo , the motorsport division of the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan . The name of the team received from the British since 2002 active tuning -Vertrieb Sumo Power , who had previously been in the rally - and drift sport was active and merged in 2009 with JRM.

In 2010, Sumo Power GT and the Swiss Racing Team fielded two Nissan GT-Rs in the newly announced FIA GT1 World Championship . One driver pairing consisted of former FIA GT champion Jamie Campbell-Walter , who shared a vehicle with the experienced British GT driver Warren Hughes . The German Nismo works driver Michael Krumm and the former DTM driver Peter Dumbreck formed the other together.

The team's greatest achievement was the victory of Campbell-Walter and Hughes after the disqualification of the Aston Martin DBR9 by Tomáš Enge and Darren Turner at the prestigious RAC Tourist Trophy in Silverstone . Krumm and Dumbreck won the qualifying race in Portugal , but several other podiums for both driver pairs were only enough for sixth place in the team classification. Nissan also came in sixth and last in the manufacturers' championship.

2011

After the Swiss Racing Team switched from Nissan to Lamborghini , JRM fielded four Nissan GT-Rs in the FIA GT1 World Championship : two under their own name, two as Sumo Power GT. Sumo Power GT started the season with the Brazilian duo of the two former Formula 1 drivers Enrique Bernoldi and Ricardo Zonta as well as Jamie Campbell-Walter and the Le Mans winner David Brabham . Michael Krumm and Peter Dumbreck officially switched to the JR Motorsports team .

After Ricardo Zonta left the team after the first third of the season, Warren Hughes took over for two events before Nicky Catsburg rode with Enrique Bernoldi for the rest of the year. Only Campbell-Walter and Brabham came on the podium, so Sumo Power only finished fifth in the team standings, while JR Motorsports narrowly missed the team world championship title and achieved the drivers' title with Krumm and Lucas Luhr .

After the FIA GT1 World Championship changed to the GT3 group regulations in 2012, neither JRM nor Sumo Power GT competed again.
