Life

Albert von Thurn und Taxis is the youngest child of Johannes and Gloria von Thurn und Taxis , née Countess von Schönburg-Glauchau . He still has two older sisters, Maria Theresia and Elisabeth . After the death of his father in 1990, he inherited his private fortune together with his sisters and mother, which he took over as head of the family - until 2001 under the tutelage of his mother.

He spent his childhood in Regensburg, graduated from the German School in Rome and, after completing his military service, studied economics and theology with the Franco-German Brigade at the University of Edinburgh . Since 2009 he has lived in Zurich , Switzerland .

Career

He drives car races and is Vice-Champion (2007 & 2008) and Champion (2010) in the ADAC GT Masters . Due to the success of the Reiter Engineering racing team , he was promoted to the Le Mans Series with the team in 2009 . There he was registered on a GT2 version of the Lamborghini Gallardo . However, the project was discontinued by Reiter after a championship run. Thurn und Taxis therefore switched to JMB and drove a Ferrari F430 GT in the same racing category for another race in the series before withdrawing prematurely from the season. His involvement with Reiter in the FIA GT3 European Championship with Klaus Ludwig ended prematurely after two races. In 2010 he won the ADAC GT Masters with his partner Peter Kox in a Reiter Lamborghini.

Head of the House of Thurn and Taxis

Coat of arms of the Princely House of Thurn and Taxis

According to the genealogical handbook of the nobility , his traditional address in the monarchy would be: His Highness the 12th Prince of Thurn and Taxis, Prince of Buchau and Prince of Krotoszyn, Duke of Wörth and Donaustauf, Prince Count of Friedberg-Scheer, Count of Valle- Sássina, also to Marchtal, Neresheim etc., heir general postmaster . Article 109 of the WRV ( Weimar Constitution of August 11, 1919) stipulated that the public law privileges or disadvantages of birth or status are to be abolished. Since then, nobility designations have been considered part of the name, the passing on or conferment of the firstborn titles previously granted in Primogenitur , such as Prince here, is no longer possible unless these titles have historically been used as part of the name of all family members. Therefore, the traditionally used designation “Prince” is only to be understood as a designation of the respective head of the House of Thurn und Taxis. The salutation of your highness, which historically was due to all members of princely houses born or married according to house law , is still used as a form of courtesy by some circles of society, but has also been without legal relevance since the abolition of the monarchy.

As head of the house, he is also the Grand Master of the House Order De Parfaite Amitié . Since November 15, 2007 he has also been a legal knight of the Constantinian Military Order of St. George . As early as 2005 he was accepted as a Sodale in the Marian Men's Congregation Regensburg , of which numerous former Princes von Thurn und Taxis were members.

capital

According to the Forbes list 2014, the assets of Albert von Thurn und Taxis amounted to approximately 1.5 billion US dollars . This put him at number 1,190 on the Forbes list worldwide and number 76 in Germany. Currently (as of 2019), he is no longer listed on the Forbes list of billionaires.

The von Thurn und Taxis family is still the largest private landowner in Germany and, with almost 20,000 hectares of forest in Germany, the largest private forest owner in Germany. In 2004, Gloria had more than 5,000 hectares of forest land to the company of Thurn and Taxis Blue Forest of Adolf Merckle sold to diversify the family fortune. Up until then, the Thurn und Taxis house had owned around 28,000 hectares of forest.
