The Blue Forest GmbH & Co. KG with headquarters in Aalen ( Baden-Württemberg ) is a German forestry company owned by the family Merckle . With real estate from the end of 2007 , it counts around 12,000 hectares , including over 8,000 hectares of forest, making it one of the largest private forest operations in Germany.
Blue forest
Blauwald was founded by the entrepreneur Adolf Merckle ( ratiopharm , Phoenix Pharmahandel , CT Arzneimittel and holdings in Kässbohrer Geländefahrzeuge , HeidelbergCement , Zollern GmbH and Co. KG, etc.) when he took over the entire forestry operation on January 15, 2004 with retroactive effect from January 1, 2004 Ebnat of the Princely House of Thurn and Taxis with more than 5000 hectares of forest took over. These areas in the Swabian Jura , the outskirts of the Nördlinger Ries and in Mainfranken near Grettstadt include some of the most efficient forest locations in southern Germany.
Other acquisitions were the more than 800 hectares (about half) of the urban forest of Blaubeuren (the place is the seat of the Merckle Group) for a total of 6.4 million euros (80 cents / m²), large parts of the urban forest of Ulm , forest areas in Vogtland from the BVVG and recultivated waste dumps from the LMBV and the BVVG, forests from the Württemberg baroness Speth-Schülzburg as well as smaller forest areas in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (also from the BVVG). High mountain forest and alpine pastures of the Fürstenhaus Wolfegg (900 hectares of forest, around 700 hectares of alpine pastures ) were also part of the forest operation, but were sold in 2012.
In addition to wood in various forms (sawn timber, pulpwood, firewood, round timber), Blauwald also offers business services in the forestry sector (e.g. expert reports, advice).
Blue water
In addition to forest, other areas of land were owned by Blauwald until 2007. Via its subsidiaries Blauwasser GmbH and Blauwasser Seemanagement GmbH , Merckle owned around 2,000 hectares of inland lake areas including bordering shore areas in eastern Germany, including the Gremminer See in Saxony-Anhalt near Gräfenhainichen ( Wittenberg district ) (acquired at the end of 2004; former opencast mine Golpa-Nord ) and the Flooded open-cast mine hole Gröbern created Gröberner See , as well as at Borna (Lkr. Leipzig, Saxony) the Hainer See and the Kahnsdorfer See (the latter two belong to the Leipziger Neuseenland ). The manor and parts of the Kahnsdorf park were also owned by the company. For these areas, a concept for leisure and sport on and in the water was developed, on the Hainer See also for living (holiday properties) and business, including in cooperation with the Ferropolis open-cast mining museum - city made of iron ). Part of the concept was z. B. own excursion boat on the Gremminer See, the "Gremmina". The fishing rights in the lakes and hunting rights in the forests around the lakes owned by the company were also included. Accordingly, z. B. Sold fishing permits and marketed game meat. In the area of the spoil heaps, short rotation plantations from fast-growing types of wood (poplar hybrids, etc.) were planned for the purpose of material and / or energy recovery ( energy wood ).
In 2007 the lake landscapes were split off. Since then, Blauwald has been operating a pure forest operation again.
