particularities |
The Kahnsdorfer See , like the neighboring Hainer See to the east, emerged from the "Witznitz II" open-cast lignite mine . It is part of the post-mining landscape of Leipziger Neuseenland and is located north of Borna and south of Leipzig in the Neukieritzsch municipality . It should be completely flooded by 2018 by discharging water from the United Schleenhain opencast mine . The lake and the adjacent bank areas are owned by Blauwasser GmbH & Co. KG. In contrast to the Hainer See, the Kahnsdorfer See with its bank area is largely left to its own devices as a priority area for nature and landscape.
The eponymous district of Kahnsdorf belongs to the Saxon community of Neukieritzsch .
The Lausitzer und Mitteldeutsche Bergbau-Verwaltungsgesellschaft planned to introduce the Pleiße , which was polluted by the iron ocher, into the Kahnsdorfer See. Sedimentation should reduce the iron hydroxide content in the lower reaches of the river and at the same time increase the pH of the lake. Instead, a direct discharge of the Wyhra , possibly also the Pleiße, into the Hainer See is to be investigated in order to avoid the flooding in the area of the artificial diversion route and also to prevent the re-acidification of the Hainer See.
