Wyhra
The Wyhra , formerly also Wyra , above the Schömbach dam also Wiera , is an approx. 47 kilometer long tributary of the Pleiße in Saxony and Thuringia . As Wiera , the river gives its name to the places Ober- and Niederwiera in the northern part of the district of Zwickau , the Wieratal and as Wyhra for the locality Wyhra , the district of the Saxon town of Borna .
history
In earlier times the name of the river was also spelled Wyra . With the construction of the Schömbach dam between 1967 and 1972 between Langenleuba-Niederhain and Schömbach , the river has been divided since then. The construction of the dam for flood protection became necessary because natural retention areas (flood areas) were no longer available due to the opencast mine downstream . Since the construction of the dam, the Leuba no longer flows directly into the river, but initially into the dam.
Water classification
In Thuringia, the Wiera has the status of a water body of the second order according to the Thuringian Water Act and is therefore the maintenance burden of the municipalities in whose area it flows.
In the classification of flowing waters according to the Water Framework Directive , it is assigned to type VI, carbonate low mountain streams rich in fine material. It is considered an artificially modified body of water, the ecological condition and potential of which is assessed as poor. The chemical status in terms of the Water Framework Directive is good. Despite the deficits in the water structure, no measures are planned for the surface water body in the program of measures of the Elbe river basin community until 2015.
course
The Wyhra has its source near Oberwiera in the north of the district of Zwickau and still bears the name Wiera there . In Engert village it occurs Thuringian region above and flows in a northerly direction to the east of Leinawaldes nearby dam Schömbach at Altmörbitz . At Wiesebach , the brook crosses the 330 m long and 17 m high railway bridge of the Altenburg – Langenleuba-Oberhain railway line, which was operated until 1995 , with 16 arches and a curvature that is unique in Europe. Below the Schömbach dam, it flows as Wyhra into Kohrener Land through Frohburg and Borna . At its confluence with the Pleiße near Lobstädt , it is approx. 2 m wide.
Tributaries
As right inflows especially that of are Kohren-Sahlis coming stream system in rat-cat-mouse ( Ossabach ) which, when Borna confluent Eula and the Göpfersdorfer Bach and Frohnsdorf Dorfer Bach to name. The left tributaries tend to be smaller streams and ditches, as the watershed to the Pleiße is not too far away . The largest tributary on the left is the Ziegelheimer Bach , which flows into Frohnsdorf. Further tributaries in the upper reaches are the Leuba and the Schwabener Bach .
