The Leinawald nature reserve is located in the Altenburger Land district in Thuringia .
It extends northeast of Klausa , a district of Nobitz . The state road L 2460 crosses the area in a west-east direction. The B 180 runs southwest of the area and the L 1357 to the south. Leipzig-Altenburg Airport is located on the western edge , the state border with Saxony runs on the northern and northeastern edge, and the 1.75 km² Schömbach dam extends on the eastern edge .

The 1843.7 hectare area with the NSG no. 185 was placed under nature protection in 1961.
