The Wieratal comprises a rural area in the border area between Saxony and Thuringia . The valley gets its name from the Wiera brook , a tributary of the Pleiße . From April 1, 1992 until its dissolution on July 6, 2018, there was the administrative community Wieratal , whose tasks were then taken over by the municipality of Nobitz .

Location and course of the river

The Wieratal area lies between Altenburg in the north-west and the towns of Waldenburg and Penig on the Zwickauer Mulde in the south-east. In its north are the Leinawald and the Schömbach dam . It extends over 54 square kilometers.

The sources of the Wiera are located near Oberwiera . After the stream has flowed through the villages of Niederwiera, Röhrsdorf, Engertsdorf , Frohnsdorf and Langenleuba-Niederhain , it flows into the Schömbach dam. From the outflow from the dam, the stream continues to flow to the Pleiße under the name Wyhra .
