The place Breitenbach was mentioned in 1338 as "the good to Breitenbach". A Vorwerk in the village is mentioned around 1488 . In 1543, Breitenbach was bought by the Lords of Schönburg as the former property of Remse Monastery, which was dissolved in the course of the Reformation in 1533 .
