Breitenbach is a district of the municipality of Schönberg in the district of Zwickau (Free State of Saxony ). The place was incorporated into Pfaffroda on July 1, 1950 , with whom he came to Schönberg on January 1, 1974.

The place Breitenbach was mentioned in 1338 as "the good to Breitenbach". A Vorwerk in the village is mentioned around 1488 . In 1543, Breitenbach was bought by the Lords of Schönburg as the former property of Remse Monastery, which was dissolved in the course of the Reformation in 1533 . Around 1696, however, Breitenbach is listed as an official place of the Schönburg rulership of Remse , which arose after the dissolution of the Remse monastery in 1533 and belonged to the Lords of Schönburg under Wettin suzerainty since 1543 . As part of the administrative reorganization of the Kingdom of Saxony, Breitenbach was subordinated to the Zwickau district administration as part of the Schönburg feudal lordship of Remse in 1835. From 1856, Breitenbach belonged to the Remse court office and from 1875 initially to the Zwickau administration . On July 1, 1950, Breitenbach was incorporated into Pfaffroda , which in turn was incorporated into the community of Schönberg on January 1, 1974 . As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , Breitenbach came to the Glauchau district in the Chemnitz district in 1952 (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Saxon Glauchau district from 1990 and in the Chemnitzer Land district in 1994 and in the district in 2008 Zwickau rose.
