Pfaffroda was mentioned in 1303 as "Phaffinrode". The place belonged to the Schoenburg dominions until the second half of the 19th century . For the most part it was administered as an official village by the Schönburg lordship of Waldenburg , but it was spatially separated from the main part by the Schönburg lordship of Remse . A Pfaffroda estate, on the other hand, belonged to the manorial rule of the Glauchau city ​​council, whereby this was administered by the Glauchau rule , Hinterglauchau office. After an administrative reform was carried out in the area of ​​the Schönburg recession in 1878, Pfaffroda came to the newly founded Saxon governorate of Glauchau in 1880 .

On July 1, 1950, Dittrich and Breitenbach were incorporated into Pfaffroda. As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , the municipality of Pfaffroda and its two districts became part of Glauchau in the Chemnitz district (renamed Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Saxon district of Glauchau from 1990 and in 1994 in the Chemnitzer district Land and 2008 in the district of Zwickau.

When the municipality of Pfaffroda was incorporated into Schönberg , the district of Dittrich was reclassified to Meerane on January 1, 1974 .
