The square village Weidensdorf was mentioned in 1161/71 as "Weydemannestorff". The local church was mentioned around 1166, which was a branch church of Jerisau until 1555 and since then of Remse. Weidensdorf has belonged to the Remse monastery since 1170 . The village was bought in 1543 as the former property of the Remse Monastery, which was dissolved in the course of the Reformation in 1533, through purchase to the Lords of Schönburg . In 1551 Weidensdorf is run as an official village of the Schönburg rule of Remse , which came into being after the dissolution of the Remse monastery in 1533 and belonged to the Lords of Schönburg under Wettin suzerainty since 1543 .

As part of the administrative reorganization of the Kingdom of Saxony, Weidensdorf was placed under the Zwickau district administration as part of the Schönburg feudal lordship in Remse in 1835. The feudal lordship of Remse and its locations has since been administratively administered by the royal Saxon office of Zwickau . From 1856, Weidensdorf belonged to the Remse court office and from 1875 initially to the Zwickau administration . After an administrative reform was carried out in the area of the Schönburg recession in 1878, Weidensdorf and the entire former judicial district of Remse came to the newly founded Saxon governorate of Glauchau in 1880 .

As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , the municipality of Weidensdorf came to the Glauchau district in the Chemnitz district in 1952 (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Saxon district of Glauchau from 1990 and in the district of Chemnitzer Land in 1994 and in 2008 in Zwickau district rose. On January 1, 1994, Weidensdorf was incorporated into Remse. In 2015 Friweika eG celebrated its 45th company anniversary. The company specializing in potato products was founded in 1970 as an LPG and converted into a registered cooperative (eG) in 1990 .
