The Friweika eG is a German food company with headquarters in the district of Weidensdorf the West Saxon community Remse . The company specializes in the manufacture of potato products.

More than 20 farms in the federal states of Saxony, Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt cultivate around 1,400 hectares of arable land as contractual partners. Annually (as of July 2020) the company processes around 70,000 tons of fresh potatoes and produces 35,000 tons of potato products, such as salads and ready-to-cook products . There is also a company restaurant and a factory outlet since 1997 .

history

The origins of the company lie in the inter-company facility (ZBE) potato warehouse in Weidensdorf . This was responsible for three agricultural production cooperatives (LPG), which started specialized potato production on over 1500 hectares in 1970 . In 1977, with the production of dumpling mass for Thuringian dumplings , the company entered the production of refined potato products. The fresh potato peeling plant was the largest of its kind in the German Democratic Republic in 1984 with a capacity of over 7,000 tons per year . In the course of German reunification , on July 6, 1990, the company was converted into a cooperative under civil law with its current name - it is an abbreviation for "Fresh Weidensdorfer Potato Products".

In 1992 the company built up its gastro service and a professional sales system . In the late 1990s one was by-products recycling plant installed, the generation and electricity from biogas is used (1.5 million cubic meters in 2009). Numerous other new buildings, modernizations and expansions of the production facilities followed. For example, construction in 2002 was after a year of Eger district Neugepülzig opened a fresh potato peeling system, which together with the Agraset agricultural eG Naundorf bei Rochlitz is operated and currently (as of July 2020) an annual output of 5,020 tons has. In the same year Friweika launched its products nationwide for the first time.
