The municipality of Erlau is a group of rural Waldhufendörfer villages in the district of central Saxony in Saxony .

geography

Eger extends between the cities of Mittweida , Rochlitz , Geringswalde and Waldheim . The village is located in the central Saxon hill country (Saxon castle and heathland) near the castle and the Kriebstein dam .

history

Erlau was first mentioned in a document in 1290 as Erllowe . In 1329 one wrote in a document tzu der Erlawe . It was used to describe a settlement in a meadow covered with alders.

1290 transferred Mgf. Friedrich von Meissen fiefdom in Erllowe to the monastery Buch , abandoned by Otto de Rochelizc and by the de Poscizc brothers . In 1329 Heinrich von Königsfeld determined that u. a. a regular income of thirty shillings from Erlawe , which he had bought from the abbot of the Buch monastery, should be returned to the monastery in the event of his death. 1349 Fridricus et Hermannus de Schonenburg domini in Gluchow with the village Erlow are mentioned in the loan book of Friedrich des Strengen . 1378 Erlow is also mentioned in the Registrum Dominorum with taxes to the castrum Rochlitz. A partially preserved correspondence between Kf. Johann von Sachsen , Hz. Georg von Sachsen and Abbot Antonius von Buch between 1507 and 1508 shows that the entire village of Erlau belonged to the Buch monastery at that time. Finally, in the Buch monastery inheritance book of 1548, it says: 43 possessed men, 5 of which are lendable to the Buch monastery. The others are responsible for the Rochlitz office, those of Carlowitz and others; it is so mixed up that this village has 12 lords .

The district of Beerwalde was mentioned for the first time in 1182. The document says: de silva quam Bero in possesione sua habuit - a forest owned by the Bero. It is almost certain that the village was founded by Bero, the gift of Count Dedos von Wettin-Rochlitz.

In the cemetery of the Schweikershain district, graves and a plaque commemorate three named Polish women who were deported to Germany during the Second World War and were victims of forced labor .

Culture and sights

  • Beerwalde moated castle (Wallburg, Waal, Wall, Schanze) in Beerwalde (immediately east of the church). First mentioned in 1283 (Hermannus de Berenwalde). Seat of the Lords of Beerwalde before they founded Kriebstein Castle in the 14th century .

Economy and Infrastructure

Erlau is a rather rural municipality with many tradespeople in a wide variety of fields of activity. The largest employer is Agraset Naundorf eG. In addition to agricultural businesses and pond farms, there are also a number of successful, supraregional medium-sized companies and many craftsmen based in Erlau.

Traditionally, chair and furniture factories played an important role in the region. In Erlau there was also a factory of the VEB Großdrehmaschinenbau “8. May “Karl-Marx-Stadt.

Erlau is on the Riesa – Chemnitz railway line . The Erlau (Sachs) and Schweikershain stops are in the municipality . Regional trains on the Elsterwerda – Riesa – Chemnitz line stop there every hour, every two hours on the weekend . The northern districts were formerly accessible via the Waldheim – Rochlitz railway line with a stop (temporarily stop) in Obstmühle , but this line has been closed since 1998. There are also bus connections to Geringswalde, Mittweida and Rochlitz from Monday to Friday, but the northern districts of Sachsendorf and Theesdorf have no public transport connections. The tariff of the Verkehrsverbund Mittelachsen (VMS) applies to all local transport .

The former station building of the station, which was previously empty, was converted into a multi- generation station by July 2017 with funding . It offers space for a citizens' meeting point, a doctor's office and a day care facility.

The state roads S 200 from Ebersdorf (near Chemnitz) to Altgeringswalde and S 250 from Erlau to Rochlitz lead through the municipality. The districts are connected by district roads.

An Enercon E-101 wind turbine with a hub height of 135 meters has been in Erlau since 2012 . It is the tallest wind turbine in Saxony.
