The Ground network means axes ( VMS ) is a traffic group of public transport (PT) in the greater Chemnitz.

Network area

Local rail network (2014)

The VMS extends over the independent city of Chemnitz and the districts of the Erzgebirgskreis , Zwickau and central Saxony . These districts as well as the cities of Chemnitz and Zwickau are members of the Zweckverband Verkehrsverbund Mittelachsen (ZVMS) , which has been using the Verkehrsverbund Mittelachsen GmbH to fulfill its tasks since June 1, 2004. The network area covers an area of 5,115 km², in which 1.23 million people live.

Emergence

After the first considerations about a community tariff as early as 1990, the transport companies began preparing the establishment of a transport association in 1995, which took place on November 5, 1997. The first product of the VMS was the common bond timetable, valid from 24 May 1998. Since 1 December 1998, the administration union formed by the above authorities is Verkehrsverbund Mittelsachsen (ZVMS) PTAs in rail transport and took over thus the earlier the country about the country's public transport company Saxony perceived functions. On January 1, 2002, the joint network tariff - an area zone tariff - was introduced, which has since applied to all rail , tram and bus routes in the network area with the exception of a few tourist-oriented special lines . At the municipal transport company Zwickau (SVZ) the common tariff has only been in effect since November 1, 2004. Before that, the SVZ's in-house tariff was in effect, the VMS tariff was only used in regional traffic.

Between 2004 and 2014, initially three and later six issues of the customer magazine “vms mobil” were published each year. The customer magazines of the respective railway companies are now available for current information, and the leisure magazine “Entdeckertage” has been published three times a year since autumn 2013.

In June 2018, VMS announced that it had commissioned the delivery of the ITCS (Intermodal Control System) with its partner companies, which is to be linked to CVAG's existing ITCS. Around 1,000 buses and 100 trams will be equipped with new on-board computers so that, among other things, automatic, cross-company connection security and standardized real-time information will be possible. 75 percent of the costs of around 12 million euros by 2020 are funded by the Free State of Saxony.

tasks

In addition to coordinating local rail transport, standardizing tariffs and managing public transport, the sovereign task of transporting school children in the districts of Zwickau, central Saxony and the Erzgebirge district, but not in the independent city of Chemnitz, has been transferred to the ZVMS since January 1, 2011. For this purpose, the school transport regulations were passed on May 24, 2011 by the association assembly, which came into force on June 10, 2011.

Timetable areas

Four timetable books are published annually by the Verkehrsverbund Central Saxony:
