Location of Niederstriegis in Saxony |
Niederstriegis is a district of the town of Roßwein in the district of Central Saxony in the Free State of Saxony .
geography
Niederstriegis is located about 7.5 kilometers southeast of the town of Döbeln and five kilometers west of the old town of Roßwein at the confluence of the Striegis with the Freiberg Mulde .
history
In 1338 a document is mentioned for the first time in a document called Petrus de Streguz, who was called Petrus de Strigus in 1350, an indication that the village already existed at this time. The name comes from the Striegis River on which the village is located. The original meaning of the river name is not clear. He is certainly of Slavic origin. The problem with the allocation of documents is the existence of a second place called Striguz, the village called Langestrigis from 1540 onwards. At Niederstriegis, the addition of the name Nieder- in the form Nider-Strigis was only proven to be used in 1790.
Before 1588, the place belonged to the Döbeln office and in that year came to the Nossen office .
The Niederstriegis community was dissolved with effect from January 1, 2013. Before it consisted of the following districts:
- Niederstriegis
- Mahlitzsch
- Grunau
- Hohenlauft
- Littdorf
- Otzdorf
Until it was incorporated into the city, it belonged to the Roßwein administrative community . The individual districts were characterized by historic manors and mansions .
During industrialization , various businesses were set up in the districts located in the valleys (Aropharm chemical plant in Niederstriegis, paper mill in Grunau). After the German reunification these were closed.
A small castle ruin still reminds of the former knight's seat in Mahlitzsch .
