history
The Waldhufendorf Bärenwalde was founded by a locator named Bero, from which the place name Bärenwalde (Berowalde) is probably derived. Bärenwalde belonged to the Wiesenburg office from 1764 to 1843 and then to the Kirchberg office. In 1856 the place came to the Kirchberg court office and in 1875 to the Zwickau administration , the successor of which is the Zwickau district.
Potatoes were grown for the first time in Bärenwalde in 1712.
Various branches of the textile and brush industry settled in Bärenwalde in the 19th century. Brick production developed through the granite quarries on the Crinitzberg. From 1893 to 1970 Bärenwalde had a station with a connection to the Wilkau-Haßlau-Carlsfeld narrow-gauge railway . In 1994 the communities of Bärenwalde and Obercrinitz merged with its district Lauterhofen to form the community of Crinitzberg.
