history
The area between Borberg and Geiersberg was first settled around 1180 and 1212. The name Kirchberg is derived from the location of a church on a mining site. The town charter was granted to Kirchberg around 1310. The most important branch of business, the cloth making trade, has been located in Kirchberg since the 16th century. Modest mining began around the Geiersberg in 1710, but was stopped in 1723 due to unsuccessfulness. Kirchberg belonged to the Wiesenburg office until 1843 . This became part of the Kirchberg office in 1843 and a district court was set up in the city. In 1856, part of the Kirchberg office was formed into the Kirchberg court office, which in 1875 became part of the Zwickau administration . From 1881 to 1973 Kirchberg had a connection to the Saxon rail network through the Wilkau-Haßlau-Carlsfeld narrow-gauge railway. The Kirchberg-West prefabricated building area was built in 1983.

Furthermore, there is an Evangelical Methodist congregation in Kirchberg, the regional church community and an Evangelical free church congregation (Brethren Church). coat of arms
It is not exactly known since when Kirchberg had a city coat of arms . The first surviving city coat of arms shows three wooden towers and could come from the 14th century. The shapes of the towers changed until the 19th century, but they always symbolized the three city gate towers that were destroyed after 1830. When the town hall was rebuilt in 1852, a city coat of arms was attached to the facade as a half-relief. It corresponds to the shape from 1394 and still adorns Kirchberg's flags, letterhead, stamps and seals to this day. The three mountains seem to Borberg ( 435 m above sea level. HN ) Geiersberg ( 426 m above sea level. NN ) and shooting mountain ( 440 m above sea level. NN ) to symbolize. It is the mountains that enclose the city center in the Rödelbachtal in a triangle.
