Location of Obercrinitz in Saxony

Obercrinitz has been part of the municipality of Crinitzberg in the Zwickau district since 1994 .

Geographical location

Obercrinitz lies in the valley of the Crinitzbach , a side stream of the Rödelbach . Two quarries in the local area indicate the location of the village in the Kirchberg granite area. The eponymous Crinitzberg ( 573  m above sea level ) is located on the border with Bärenwalde.

Community structure

The Waldhufendorf Obercrinitz was mentioned for the first time in 1460 and belonged as an exclave to the Zwickau office until 1843 and then to the Kirchberg office . In 1856 the place came to the Kirchberg court office and in 1875 to the Zwickau administration , the successor of which is the Zwickau district . In 1950 Herlagrün came from Wildenau to Obercrinitz. From July to December 1952 Obercrinitz briefly belonged to the Auerbach district in Vogtland and was then reclassified to the Zwickau-Land district . Lauterhofen has been a part of Obercrinitz since 1970 . With the formation of the municipality of Crinitzberg in 1994, Obercrinitz and Lauterhofen became districts with equal rights.

Various branches of the textile industry settled in Obercrinitz in the 19th century. Industrial stone extraction developed in the 19th century. From 1893 to 1970 Obercrinitz was connected to the Wilkau-Haßlau-Carlsfeld narrow-gauge railway . The station was outside of the town on Crinitzberg. Radium sources discovered in 1935 in the forest settlement of Obercrinitz were used for healing purposes until the Second World War . During the GDR era, a large cattle barn was built in the Herlagün district.

The VEB Steinkohlenwerk "Karl Liebknecht" in Oelsnitz has built and maintained a children's holiday camp for the children of its employees.

Origin of name

In Obercrinitz, the Old Sorbian word krinica (Quellbach or Krummbach) has been associated with the dialect Krinitz, the crossbill, for over four centuries .

Seal of the Church

A crossbill, the Krinitz, can be seen on the Obercrinitz seal. The bird Krinitz was associated with the old Sorbian word for source stream (Krinica). The oldest Obercrinitzer seal dates from 1562 and is in the Zwickau city ​​archive .

Religions

The ev.-luth. Parish St. Johannis in Obercrinitz with Lauterhofen and Herlagrün forms a parish with the neighboring parishes in Wildenau and Stangengrün within the Ephorie Zwickau. An inscription on a ceiling beam of the hall church St. Johannis suggests that a predecessor of the church was probably built around 1493. In the City Museum Zwickau you can see parts of a carved altarpiece from the year 1516th

The current church was built in 1716 in the Baroque style and redesigned in 1863 in a classical style. Restorations took place in 1938 and 1975. The organ from 1856 was built by Carl Gottlieb Jehmlich . The altar from 1716 was re-erected in 1938.

There is still a regional church community in the village.

The local road leads through Obercrinitz through the Crinitztal via Lauterhofen and Wolfersgrün to Niedercrinitz . Since 1893, Obercrinitz had a station on the Crinitzberg with a connection to the Wilkau-Haßlau-Carlsfeld narrow-gauge railway . The line was closed on the section between Saupersdorf bei Kirchberg and Rothenkirchen in 1970.

Industry

The granite quarries in and near Obercrinitz have been supplying building blocks and paving stones , packing stores and gravel for many buildings in the area and other more distant cities such as Reichenbach , Chemnitz and Leipzig since the 1870s .
