geography

The community of Gornau is located on a plateau west of the Zschopau and east of the Dittersdorfer Höhe ridge (554 m). The highest point of the place is the Götzhöhe with 493 m between the districts, the lowest point is the Zschopau valley with 290 m in the district of Witzschdorf . The district of Gornau is a Waldhufendorf , which lies west-east facing on the plateau. The district of Dittmannsdorf , also a Waldhufendorf, is located north of Gornau in the valley of the Dittmannsdorfer Bach. The district of Witzschdorf is located northeast of Gornau, on the steep western slope of the Zschopau valley.

Neighboring communities

In the west the city of Chemnitz borders with the Kleinolbersdorf-Altenhain district , in the north and northeast Augustusburg with the districts Kunnersdorf and Hennersdorf , in the east Grünhainichen and Zschopau and in the south and southwest Amtsberg on the municipality.

history

Gornau was 1403 demonstrably first documented as yarns mentioned in the law firm register of Markgrafens William I have a document issued: The Marquis of Meissen William I the one-eyed Barbara invested by Wiczscherstorff, wife of Caspar von Wiczscherstorff with jointure in Gornau and Kunnersdorf in office Schellenberg . With the Reformation in 1539 Gornau belongs to the Parish of Zschopau. The place was the official village of the Office Augustusburg (formerly Schellenberg). In 1673 a teacher Christoph Merbeth is mentioned for the first time. In 1738, the community of Gornau acquired the house that Merbeth had already used as a school building. A new school building was inaugurated on November 21, 1841. In 1891 the municipality's own cemetery with mourning hall is inaugurated. A larger school building is inaugurated in October 1897. Gornau was connected to the central electricity supply in 1907. In 1926 the municipal water pipeline and the municipal gas pipeline are built. In August 1929 a newly built church was opened as a prayer house in the cemetery. The swimming pool was inaugurated in 1932. In 1934, as part of job creation measures, footpaths and locks were created. The local stocking factories are dismantled in 1946 as reparations . 1962 Gornau becomes an independent parish. On March 1, 1994 Dittmannsdorf and Witzschdorf are incorporated. The bypass of the federal highway 174 is completed in 1995. An administrative partnership has existed with the city of Zschopau since July 1, 2000 .

The federal highway 180 runs through the village . The B 174 leads since the completion of the bypass in 1995 south past Gornau.
