Location of the municipality of Raschau-Markersbach in the Erzgebirge district | ||
Raschau-Markersbach is a municipality in the Saxon Ore Mountains District , which was formed on January 1st, 2008 through the merger of the municipalities of Raschau and Markersbach .
geography
The municipality in the Western Ore Mountains lies on the creeks Große Mittweida and Pöhlwasser and the Hundsmarterrücken elevations , on which the upper basin of the Markersbach pumped storage plant is located, Emmler and Schafberg .
Community structure
The municipality of Raschau-Markersbach consists of the following districts:
- Raschau, consisting of the local locations
- Raschau and
- Langenberg
- Markersbach, consisting of the local locations
- Markersbach
- Mittweida with Obermittweida and
- Washer
Only Raschau and Markersbach form their own localities within their borders that existed until 2007 . The other districts were already incorporated into one of the two earlier municipalities at that time.
Neighboring communities
In the north, the cities of Grünhain-Beierfeld and Elterlein border the municipality, in the east the city of Scheibenberg and the municipality of Crottendorf , in the southeast the city of Oberwiesenthal , in the south the municipality of Breitenbrunn / Erzgeb. and in the west the large district town of Schwarzenberg .
history
After protracted controversies, the necessary resolutions to dissolve the Raschau-Markersbach-Pöhla administrative community were passed in the course of 2007 . The agreement to merge the two municipalities of Raschau and Markersbach was signed by the two incumbent mayors Henry Solbrig and Manfred Meyer on October 26, 2007 after the necessary legitimation was given by local council resolutions.
Raschau-Markersbach is one of the Saxon municipalities with the highest trade tax revenues (benefiting from the Markersbach pumped storage plant ). Due to the Saxon Financial Equalization Act of 2008, the municipality's allocations from the Free State of Saxony were canceled. By decision of January 2, 2009, the municipality must also pay an annual financial contribution of 1.7 million euros to poorer municipalities. The own debts of around 7 million euros are not taken into account. Along with 19 other affected communities, the community is involved in a lawsuit against the financial equalization scheme ; they are represented by the former Saxon Minister of the Interior, Klaus Hardraht . The lawsuit was dismissed in January 2010.
In February 2009, discussions were held with the mayor of Scheibenberg, Wolfgang Andersky, about the formation of a large community to which, in addition to Raschau-Markersbach, Scheibenberg and Schlettau should also belong.
On April 3, 2014, a thunderstorm of heavy rain triggered a mudslide and damaged several roads. The mud made its way through the village over a length of 300 meters, damaging at least ten houses from the mud and water. Already in 2001, 2002 and 2008 districts were damaged by floods and mudslides.

Economy and Infrastructure
traffic
The community of Raschau-Markersbach is located on federal highway 101 . In the district of Markersbach, a 1.7 km long bypass was built between October 2005 and May 2011 , which is intended to relieve the local situation of through traffic. The centerpiece is a 44 m high and 317 m long concrete bridge with two reinforced concrete hollow pillars over the Mittweida valley. In the course of construction, several difficulties arose with the mountainous terrain to be overcome. In October 2006, a slope that was notched deep into the terrain slid off the planned east connection of the bridge, so that lengthy safety measures and incline changes had to be carried out. In July 2007, when the pit for the foundation of one of the two bridge piers was excavated, old mining was encountered, so that extensive stabilization of the subsoil was necessary. According to the official communication of the Plauen Road Construction Office, the annual onset of winter, which occurred surprisingly, also hindered completion. The construction costs of the bypass were originally estimated at € 13 million, but ultimately came to around € 25 million. The completion of the project was originally planned for November 2007. Until it was opened to traffic on May 16, 2011, there was a total delay in construction of three and a half years.
On December 1, 1889, Raschau and Markersbach were connected to the Annaberg-Buchholz-Schwarzenberg railway line , which was discontinued for passenger traffic on September 27, 1997. To overcome the great difference in altitude in the Markersbach district, the railway line leads in a wide curve through the community. In addition, 3 bridges are necessary to bridge valley heirs, including the well-known 37 m high Markersbach Viaduct . The Ore Mountain View Railway has been running on the route several weekends a year since 2009 . The connection to the local public transport is guaranteed by various bus routes operated by Regionalverkehr Erzgebirge GmbH . The next train stations are in Schwarzenberg and Annaberg-Buchholz .
Commercial enterprise
The main industrial companies in the municipality are:
- Markersbach pumped storage plant (operated by Vattenfall )
- Beringer containers GmbH
In addition, there are a large number of craft and family businesses in the community.
education
The school system in Raschau and Markersbach was founded with the introduction of school teaching in the 16th century. It was not until 1840 that the school office was expanded to include a girls 'and boys' teacher in both places. The industrialization and the consequent rapid population growth made the hiring of additional teachers needed. The school building in Raschau dates from 1883. In 1973 the extended school was renamed the Clara-Zetkin-Oberschule . Today a primary school is housed in this school building on the market square in Raschau. A second was baptized in 1973 in the Siedlung des Friedens and two years later with the name Paul-Blechschmidt -Oberschule . The resulting secondary school in Raschau was closed on July 31, 2005 after a steady decline in the number of pupils due to the state's withdrawal of participation and has been vacant since then.
The two school buildings in Markersbach date from 1862 and 1982. The ten-class Thomas Müntzer secondary school was converted into a four-class elementary school in 1992 . From then on, the Markersbach students mainly attended the secondary schools in Raschau and Scheibenberg, as well as the grammar schools in Schwarzenberg and Schlettau . The state primary school was closed in 2001. Only the Jenaplan School , a state-approved elementary and secondary school in private ownership, keeps the school running in the village.
